Sink Project - Day 5

What I finished today:
-Painted the wood trim white
-Installed new doors

I still need to fix up the paint around the walls. I also need to paint or stain the cabinet to match the doors. I want to install handles on the doors but I'm not sure if I can drill through the door without hitting the frosted glass. Gotta look into that more.

Sink Project - Days 3-4ish

I'm sorry for ignoring you blog. I got sick of my sink project and wanted some distance from it. Unfortunately, I needed a working sink, so instead I decided to avoid writing about it.

Here is the sink after day 3:

What I accomplished:
-Grouted the tiles
-Screwed up the paint and spackling job from the day before. Awesome.

Here is the sink after workday 4ish:

 What we did:
-Install faucet into sink
-Install sink onto tile countertop
-Hook up plumbing
-Sealed the grout (had to wait 48 hours after grouting before this could be done)

The sink looks so much better than the old sink. I've been keeping an eye on any possible leakage because although my brother and I are engineers, we are not trained plumbers.

Still to be done and is being procrastinated:
-Paint ugly wood trim
-Fix up everywhere the wall spackle was nicked and fix paint
-Install doors

Sink Project - Day 2

What I accomplished on day 2:
-Spackled and sanded walls
-Painted (accent and primary colors)
-Layed down tiles to cut out faucet and drain hole and also cut down sheet to size.
-Applied thinset and layed down tiles.

Tiling has been surprisingly easy so far. It's probably been the easiest part of the project and I got the tiles down in half an hour. Today is grouting day which I hope will be just as easy, but I have heard otherwise.

Sink Project - Day 1

My brother came down to deliver my master bedroom furniture and we decided to rip out my sink while he was here. I forgot to take a picture after the sink top was ripped out, but I have a picture of the progress at the end of the day.

What we did:
-Unhook old plumbing
-Rip out old sink
-Patch up holes where the builders decided not to install dry wall. I guess they figured it was okay to not follow code since no one would ever see the hole.
-Cut to size and screw in 2 x 4's to provide the base.
-Cut to size and screw in backerboard.
-Cut out holes for sink drain and faucet.

Now I am alone for day 2. So far I've patched up the side walls and am waiting for the spackle to dry. Then, it's painting time and then thinset and tile laying. And lots and lots of cleaning.

Sink project update

I finally decided on a tile for the counter top.

The first picture shows the colors better. The tile is called "Cloudy Sky". It also matches the paint colors in the bedroom right now, which probably shouldn't be the basis of my decision, but I really like the colors.

I'm really excited. My sink came in. Here's a preview of what it will look like.

Except on tile and actually installed.

Sink Inspiration

I may have mentioned my disdain for the master bath before. I decided to finally do something about it and revamp the sink by replacing the sinktop with tiles and a ceramic vessel sink. Here's a few pictures of what I have in mind.

It seems like a doable diy project. I haven't decided whether I want ceramic tiles or glass tiles on the sink top. Ceramic tiles are way cheaper, but I like the look of glass tiles.

I should be starting on the project soon and will be posting pictures of the progress.

Master Bath Monstrosity

I have way too many design ideas floating around in my head and need a place to let them out. Turns out my dog is not as interested in my design scheme for the guest bedroom as I had hoped. Instead I must turn to the abyss that is the internet.

Here we go...

I don't mean to brag, but I like to think that the house is coming along quite nicely. At least most of the house. The one room that I've been meaning to tackle most is probably the master bath. It looks so bad, I die a little on the inside every time I look at it. It probably doesn't look so bad to others, but in my head it's a monstrosity. Here are the before pictures of the bathroom taken at closing two years ago:






Yes, the sink is located outside of the bathroom, which makes no sense at all. Which also makes me dread how terrible it looks even more since it's visible from the actual bedroom. Although, the big bath renovation I had planned is looking like it's not going to be a possibility this summer, I have been able to come up with a new plan for tackling the bathroom.
